Dear Unity Community,
As we step into the new year, we are blessed with a profound opportunity to reflect, release, and renew. This time of transition invites us to embrace what is ready to emerge in our lives and in our ministry. It is a sacred moment to ask, “Who am I becoming?” and “What is Spirit calling forth through me?”
Last Sunday, I had the honor of leading our community in a cherished Unity tradition—The White Stone Ceremony. Together, we explored the theme, "A New Year, A New You," a journey of spiritual awakening and transformation that began with letting go of what no longer serves us (supported by the Burning Bowl the previous Sunday) and making room for the divine whispers of our highest potential. If you missed it, you can view the ceremony here.
The Power of the White Stone Ceremony
The White Stone Ceremony is a sacred ritual rooted in Revelation 2:17: “To the one who overcomes, I will give a white stone, and on the stone a new name will be written.” In Unity, we interpret this as an invitation to listen deeply to Spirit and claim a new name, a new identity, or a guiding word that symbolizes our highest aspirations and divine purpose for the year ahead.
As you hold your white stone, you are invited to release the old—old stories, habits, or limiting beliefs that have kept you tethered to a smaller version of yourself. Then, in the stillness of your heart, listen for the new name or word Spirit is revealing. This name is a reminder of who you truly are and the sacred possibilities that lie within you.
Emerging Possibilities: For You and Unity in Lynnwood
This new year, let us turn our focus to emergence. What wants to emerge in your life? Perhaps it is greater peace, deeper relationships, a sense of purpose, or a bold step into a long-held dream. Emergence asks us to trust that Spirit’s plan is unfolding perfectly, even if we cannot yet see the full picture. It is about surrendering to the divine flow and allowing ourselves to be co-creators of a life that reflects our true essence.
Similarly, Unity in Lynnwood is in a season of emergence. As we move through this transitional time, we are being called to reimagine our future together. Transitions are often accompanied by uncertainty, but they are also brimming with potential. This is our time to listen to the heart of this ministry, to discern Spirit’s vision for our community, and to align our collective energy with our highest good.
Allowing Spirit to Lead
Emergence requires trust and faith. It invites us to release the need to control outcomes and instead partner with Spirit in a dance of co-creation. In our individual lives, this might mean letting go of fear or self-doubt and stepping boldly into opportunities that align with our inner truth. For our ministry, it means fostering a mission-centric focus, where our collective efforts are guided by Spirit’s vision rather than relying on any single individual.
As a community, we have already begun this process. From our investments in Youth and Family Ministry and Sunday Music to our commitment to high-tech live streaming, we are planting seeds for a vibrant and inclusive future. But there is more to do. Together, we will:
Deepen our connection: By participating in practices like the White Stone Ceremony, we anchor ourselves in Spirit and strengthen our bonds as a spiritual family.
Clarify our vision: Through prayer, discernment, and dialogue, we will uncover the unique gifts and purpose that Unity in Lynnwood is here to express.
Embrace our resources: Rather than focusing on a sense of “not enough,” let us shift our awareness to the abundant possibilities within and around us.
A Collective Awakening
The journey we are on, both individually and as a ministry, is a sacred one. It is a journey of awakening to the truth of who we are: beloved expressions of the Divine, capable of extraordinary love, creativity, and service. It is a journey of stepping into our power and allowing Spirit to flow through us in ever-expanding ways.
As we step into 2025, let us do so with open hearts and a spirit of expectancy. Let us affirm together: I am open to what wants to emerge in my life. Spirit’s plan is unfolding perfectly, and I trust the divine timing of my good. Unity in Lynnwood is a beacon of light, love, and transformation. Together, we co-create a thriving ministry that serves our highest purpose.
Reflecting on the White Stone Ceremony
If you missed the White Stone Ceremony, I encourage you to watch the recording here. Bring your hopes, your dreams, and even your doubts as you reflect on the new name or word Spirit is revealing to you. Let us continue to hold space for Spirit to guide us in this new year.
As we embark on this journey, know that you are deeply loved and supported. The path ahead is one of boundless potential, and I am honored to walk it with you.
"Thrive and Come Alive in 2025"
With love and blessings,
Rev. Denese Schellink
