Dear Beloved Community,
February is often called the month of love, and at Unity in Lynnwood, we embrace this time as an opportunity to deepen our understanding of real love—the kind that transcends fleeting emotions and anchors us in a life of spiritual freedom.
As we continue our journey through The Untethered Soul, we explore what it means to go beyond—beyond our fears, beyond our self-imposed limitations, beyond the walls we build around our hearts. True love is not about clinging or controlling; it is about allowing, about creating space within ourselves to live fully, courageously, and unburdened.
At the same time, we are walking through A Season of Nonviolence—a sacred 64-day practice honoring the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This season calls us to embody peace, justice, and love in action. On February 16th, we reflect on the theme of Freedom, inspired by Stephen Covey’s words:
"Every human has four endowments: self-awareness, conscience, independent will, and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom… the power to choose, to respond, to change."
How are we choosing love in our daily lives? Are we extending compassion to those we disagree with? Are we breaking free from old patterns of judgment or fear? Our values—Diversity, Equity, Inclusiveness, Compassion, and Love—guide us in creating a spiritual home where all are welcome and seen as the divine beings they truly are.
This month, I invite you to open your heart to a deeper experience of love—not just as a feeling, but as a practice. Love that frees, love that includes, love that transforms.
With deep love and appreciation,
Rev. Denese Schellink
Transitional Minister, Unity in Lynnwood
