Living In the Divine Flow

Abundance is a consciousness we practice, not a condition we chase. The five gifts are gratitude, intentions, forgiveness, tithing, and surrender. Tithing helps us move out of scarcity, fear, and the belief in not-enoughness. The world is full of not-enoughness — not enough time, love, kindness, or money. We want to move into a new paradigm.
In The Go-Giver by Bob Burg, the main character learns that success comes from giving, not getting. He learns the Law of Value — that your worth is determined by how much more value you give than you take. The Law of Compensation is that your income is determined by how well you serve. And the Law of Authenticity is that the greatest gift you can give is your authentic self. Deepak Chopra also wrote about the Law of Giving and Receiving — that whatever we want (love, joy, peace, money), we must give it away to feel it alive in us. When we give, we receive. There’s a natural reciprocity in divine flow.
Now, I want to share a story about two experiences with tithing.
Barbara Thorp’s Story:
The first time I went to Unity Village in 2001, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. I meditated in Myrtle Fillmore’s Grove and saw hundreds of fireflies — it was magical. While there, I learned that everything at Unity Village was built debt-free — no loans. Every project was completed when the money arrived. That faith inspired me to start tithing. At first, my husband wasn’t ready, so I tithed from my own paycheck. Two years later, he noticed we had more, not less. He joined me, and it transformed our lives.
Rev. Denese's Story:
My husband and I began tithing years ago after learning from Rev. Edwene Gaines. Later, when he wanted to go to ministerial school, we faced major expenses — tuition, housing, airfare, and a month of lost income. We thought about pausing our tithing, but in prayer, we heard clearly: “Tithing isn’t about money. It’s about faith.” So we tithed — and a few weeks later, a miracle happened. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, my husband was called to work as an insurance adjuster. In just three weeks, he earned enough to cover all our expenses and more. That experience became a living lesson of divine supply. When we act in faith, the universe rushes in to meet us.
Tithing is faith made tangible. It’s not about money — it’s about trust in the infinite source of all good. The universe expects us to give back — in love, in time, in service, and in generosity. Many people understand this, even if they don’t call it tithing — philanthropists who give millions know the principle: “As I give, I shall receive.”
We are co-creating this world together. It’s our duty to keep energy flowing — through love, relationships, joy, and abundance. I’m not teaching tithing so you’ll give to this church — though that’s a blessing — but to help you understand the spiritual laws that support abundant living. In the Gospel of John it says, “I came that you may have life and have it more abundantly.”
Our birthright is to be prosperous, loving, joyful, and generous. This isn’t about guilt or obligation. It’s about faith, gratitude, and trust in God as our source. When we release fear and live in the divine flow, life becomes easier. Would it be okay if your life got easier?
It is God’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
